Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5
- Zone 1/21
- IIC T6
- ATEX + IECEx
Compare · Zone 1 Android tablets
These two 8-inch Android tablets are flameproof (Ex db), certified for Zone 1/21 under ATEX and IECEx at IIC T6, and both use a Samsung Exynos 1380, so on gas coverage and performance they start level. The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 is a standard Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 converted by Atexxo, and it weighs 940 g. The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 is a dedicated Ex tablet at 1,122 g, with a Class I Division 1 listing, a wider ambient range and more certified accessories. Here is how they compare, and which we would choose for which team.

Our verdict
Both tablets cover Zone 1/21 at T6, so pick by your region, your accessories and what your crews carry. For North American sites, hot sites up to +55 °C, and teams that use a pen, a certified scanner or wired data in the zone, we would choose the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1. For crews who carry the tablet all shift, fleets that already run Samsung Galaxy Tab Active devices, or teams that want a 256 GB model with 8 GB of memory, we would choose the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5.
Key differences
The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 holds an SGS listing for Class I Division 1 Groups A to D at T6, plus Class II Division 1 and Class III. Our data has no North American listing for the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5. On a site classified by Division, this can decide the choice on its own.
The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 is 182 g lighter, which you notice when a tablet is carried on a strap or held in one hand through a shift. The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 is the heavier tablet at 1,122 g.
The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1’s certificate names an S Pen, a leather case, a chest harness, a belt clip and a carrying strap, and its wireless scanner has its own Ex approval. For the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5, only a strap is named, and no Ex-rated pen, dock or keyboard is listed.
The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1’s USB-C port is intrinsically safe and may carry wired data in the hazardous area within its entity parameters. The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5’s USB-C port is reached only by removing its bottom cover in a safe area, and no Ex-rated cable or dock is listed for it.
In the field
Edge: ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1
On the European and IECEx ratings the two are level: Zone 1/21, protection level Gb/Db, gas group IIC, dust group IIIC and temperature class T6 (85 °C). The small differences are in the dust figure, a maximum surface temperature of 85 °C for the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 against 80 °C for the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1, and in the ambient range: −20 °C to +50 °C against −20 °C to +55 °C. Both are flameproof (Ex db) enclosures, and the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 adds an intrinsically safe circuit (Ex ia): its USB-C port and S Pen are intrinsically safe.
The wider gap is outside Europe. The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1’s SGS certificate covers Class I Division 1 Groups A to D at T6, Class II Division 1 Groups E, F and G, Class III and Class I Zone 1 AEx, and ecom also lists approvals for Korea, Brazil and South Africa. Our data has no North American listing and no other approvals for the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5, which holds ATEX certificate EPS 26 ATEX 1 161 X and IECEx certificate EPS 26.0044X. If your site needs more than ATEX and IECEx, ask Atexxo what it can supply.
Edge: Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5
The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 weighs 940 g including the tablet, 182 g less than the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1. Atexxo converts a standard Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5, so teams that already manage Samsung Galaxy Tab Active devices keep the same apps and standard device management, and Atexxo’s part numbers include a conversion service for a Samsung tablet you supply. It comes as a 128 GB model with 6 GB of memory or a 256 GB model with 8 GB, in Wi-Fi or 5G versions.
The rest of the hardware is close. Both have an 8-inch 1920 × 1200 screen at 600 nits, an Exynos 1380, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, 4K video at 30 fps, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and glove touch, though our data does not confirm NFC reading through the Atexxo housing. The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 lists a fingerprint sensor, and the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 face recognition. ecom lists Android Enterprise Recommended with Samsung Knox 3.10, and Atexxo lists Knox with Enterprise Edition and standard SKUs, without saying which it ships.
Edge: ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1
The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 is the better equipped for work in the zone. Its USB-C port is intrinsically safe and may carry wired data within its entity parameters, though charging through it is for non-hazardous areas only. The S Pen is intrinsically safe and may be used in the zone, and the certificate names a chest harness, belt clip, leather case, carrying strap and stylus tether. Its programmable function key can be set to push-to-talk, an emergency call or an alarm, and the Ident-Ex 02 wireless scanner carries its own Ex approval.
For the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5, the certificate and Atexxo’s page describe a unit that is opened only in a safe area. The rear camera, the touchscreen and the push buttons work through the housing, and the front window is toughened glass that must be protected from impacts above 2 J. Charging means removing the aluminum bottom cover in a safe area, and SIM cards are installed under a separate cover, also in a safe area. Only a strap is named as an accessory, and no Ex-rated cable, dock, keyboard or pen is listed, so plan on touch input. It has a programmable Active Key, but our data does not confirm the push-to-talk mapping.
Even
Both tablets have a 5,050 mAh battery, and both must be charged outside the hazardous area. The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1’s battery is not user-replaceable, and our data does not confirm whether the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5’s is: its certificate says the device shall not be opened in a hazardous location. The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 is listed at 19.44 Wh and the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 at 18.87 Wh typical. Our data gives the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 up to 14 hours on Wi-Fi internet, 15 on LTE and 16 of video playback, and ecom quotes up to 14 hours. These figures use different wording, so test your own workload before you rely on either. ecom specifies charging at −5 °C to +55 °C for its tablet.
On updates, both dates carry a caveat. Our data gives January 2029 for the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5, Samsung’s date for the standard model, and the Enterprise Edition gets longer support, but Atexxo does not say which it uses. ecom states security updates until 2032, in line with Samsung’s Enterprise Edition commitment. We would not choose on either date: ask each maker for the exact support end date for the version you order, because it matters for a fleet meant to last.

Our data lists a North American certificate for the ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 only: Class I Division 1 Groups A to D at T6. We have no North American listing for the Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5, which means unverified, so ask Atexxo before you plan a North American site.
No. Both must be charged outside the hazardous area. The ecom Tab-Ex 05 DZ1’s USB-C port may carry wired data in the zone within its limits, but not charging. The Atexxo Zone 1 Galaxy Tab Active5 is charged by removing its aluminum bottom cover in a safe area.
