How we rate

The rules we apply to every tablet, whoever makes it.

Where the facts come from

Zones, Ex markings, temperature classes and the conditions of use come from ATEX and IECEx certificates, declarations of conformity and the makers' own datasheets. Specifications come from the makers' published data. Every tablet page lists its sources.

What we could not confirm

A value we could not confirm from a primary source is shown with a numbered "Unconfirmed" marker and a note at the foot of the page saying what is uncertain. When something is unknown we say it is not verified, never that the tablet lacks it, and a value nobody publishes is left out.

Same rules for every brand

Summaries, strengths, limitations and alternatives are generated by the same rules for every tablet, so no brand gets kinder wording than another. Tablets are listed alphabetically wherever there is no ranking.

Prices are shown as on request on every tablet page and ranking, so price never decides where a tablet sits.

How the rankings work

There are no overall scores. Each Best for page ranks tablets for one zone, industry or use case, and its "How we ranked them" section states the criteria. First place has to be decided by one of those criteria, and by something visible in the data, such as the gas group, temperature class or a feature confirmed to work through a case.

Head-to-head comparisons give each topic to the tablet with the edge, or call it even, and state the limits of both tablets where they matter.

Corrections

If a fact looks wrong, or you have a newer certificate, tell us. We check it against the document and update the page. Always check the certificate for your exact model before taking a tablet into a hazardous area.
